Ms. deOlazo's Donors Choose Project

Ms. deOlazo is asking for help to provide WonderGrove Learn to all students at Abingdon. WonderGrove Learn digital resources and videos will help to develop a sense of community, self-care, and self-advocacy among our students, PK-5. Each video emphasizes one of sixteen Habits of Mind that promotes problem-solving and life-related skills necessary for effectively operating in school and society. Habits of Mind are dispositions that are skillfully and mindfully employed by characteristically intelligent, successful people when they are confronted with problems. Students will learn strategies and tools to navigate real-life situations and problems by equipping them with awareness, thought, and intentionally practiced strategies for gaining positive outcomes.

By offering these resources across the school, we are building a common language and common expectations for positive, productive behavior and learning as a caring and responsive community. Please help our worthy students get the SEL and academic support they need!

Advisory Council on Teaching and Learning (ACTL) Update

APS is planning to address improving literacy instruction at all schools. Ken Venable, Abingdon's Representative on ACTL, is encouraging all parents/guardians to take a look at this short video on literacy instruction recently released by APS featuring Barcroft Elementary School.

In addition to verification of an applicant's identity, COVID 19 vaccination is required for the application to be approved. The process takes about a week to complete. If you plan to volunteer in the school this year please be sure to complete the Volunteer Application here.
