Community Activities for Students and Families

Abingdon students, families, and staff value the collaboration and contributions of organizations in our neighborhood, throughout Arlington County, in Greater Washington, and across the country whose work benefits our community of learners. These are some of the organizations we work, learn, and grow with on behalf of our students.

Arlington Public Schools has several committees that require representatives from each school. Meetings are usually held monthly, in the evenings, at schools throughout the county. Each representative is invited to bring information and experience from their school as well as report back at PTA meetings on county wide programs . Currently, we are looking for representatives from Abingdon for the following groups. Email abingdonelementaryPTA@gmail.com if you can help.

Arlington Community Council of PTAs (CCPTA)

CCPTA provides a forum for the exchange of ideas and information among local PTAs and with the APS administration. CCPTA meets once a month to receive updates from the superintendent and school board, to share PTA information with each other, to hear from other school and community organizations, and to plan and organize CCPTA activities.

PAC Committee

APS organizes monthly meetings with staff and parents to discuss strategies to improve children's literacy. Abingdon's own reading and writing coach, Erin Watson, leads these countywide meetings.

School Health Advisory Board (SHAB): Assists with the development of health policies in Arlington, VA Public Schools and the evaluation of the status of school health, health education, and the school environment and health services.

Cub Scouts
